Ms Clara Ganslandt, Special Envoy for Arctic Matters at the European Union, visited the Faroe Islands recently. At a meeting with Ms Maria Húsgarð and Ms Dagmar Joensen-Næs from Research Council Faroe Islands options and challenges for the research cooperation between the Faroe Islands and the EU were discussed.
Ms Ganslandt´s understanding from the visit was that the Faroe Islands gain a lot from cooperating with the European Union but there are still large opportunities that can be exploited. Especially programmes like Erasmus+ and Creative Europe can be very useful for the Faroe Islands.
The cooperation agreement between the Faroe Islands and the EU opens up possibilites for associated membership in Erasmus+ but certain conditions have to be met first.
Participation in Erasmus+ can contribute to building up networks which will make it easier for Faroese researchers to join Horizon Europe project.
