Since the Faroese Immigration Office took over responsibility for immigration affairs in September 2024 significantly more foreign staff members have been employed at the University of the Faroe Islands. All applications for temporary and permanent residence and work permits for researchers and their accompanying families are now processed by the Immigration Office which makes it much easier for Faroese research institutes to employ foreigners.

The University of the Faroe Islands has also been pre-approved to employ EU citizens from one day to the next which makes it even much more easier to recruit staff from EU countries.

Foreign researchers are now working in most departments at the University of the Faroe Islands. In particular, the Faculty of Science and Technology has recently seen an increase in foreign researchers.
